Terms & Conditions

Bookends ("the service") is provided by Don Easdon and Bill Heater, individuals operating as Bookends ("we", "us"). When you use Bookends, you are contracting with Don Easdon and Bill Heater. By creating an account or continuing to use the service, you agree to these terms.
The service
Bookends is an online writing tool that uses artificial intelligence to suggest opening and closing lines for novels, screenplays and speeches based on your answers. New accounts get a 3-day free trial; continued access requires a paid subscription.
Your account
You must be of legal age to form a contract where you live, give accurate information, and keep your login details private. You are responsible for activity under your account.
Acceptable use
- No unlawful use, fraud, spam, or content that infringes anyone's intellectual property.
- No hateful, harassing or illegal content, impersonation or deepfakes, or attempts to make the AI produce such content (including "jailbreaking").
- No malware, probing, scraping, reverse engineering, reselling, or getting around usage limits.
AI-generated content
You are responsible for what you type in and how you use the results. Suggestions may be inaccurate, unoriginal or similar to other text; check them before publishing. You must have the rights to anything you submit. As between you and us, you own the lines you keep, to the extent the law allows. Rights holders can report infringement to donneasdon@mac.com or bill@reallifecreative.com; we may remove content and suspend repeat infringers. We may filter, refuse or restrict outputs and content.
Our property
We own the service, its software, design and branding. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use it while your account is in good standing.
Payments and subscriptions
Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. Payment, billing, renewal, tax, cancellation and refund terms are set out in Paddle's Buyer Terms. Plans renew automatically until cancelled; when you cancel you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
No guarantee
The service is provided "as is". We don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we disclaim implied warranties to the extent the law allows. Our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before a claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, except where the law doesn't allow this.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or end your access for a serious breach of these terms, non-payment, security or fraud risk, or repeated policy violations. You can stop using the service at any time.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms and will post the new date above. These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where the owners reside. Questions: donneasdon@mac.com or bill@reallifecreative.com.
